Is the piracy thing really something new? it has always been part of this industry, if hosting was this cheap in the 90s it would be the same bullshit we are seeing now. The thing is, everyone wants traffic and people will do anything they can to get it as long as a profit is made.

Shunga pretty much said it...

Content is more and more de-valued as time goes on, it's becoming a tool to generate traffic vs something you sell.

The interesting point in this will come when there just isn't the content out there to make that work. The last I heard the DVD market was in meltdown. You have content companies like Matrix out of business. What content will be left to steal? And the margins a lot of these sites are operating at don't really justify them shooting their own stuff. Traffic is worth less per visitor than ever before. Maybe we need to hit absolute rock bottom before the industry gets a reset.

Pimproll. It's an out and out disgrace when a sponsor has a site with a DMCA takedown notice on its page.

I don't think that ever happens, if you are a large company with tube sites and are runing thin on fresh content what do you care if you release some of your own full length movies, but really is this industry running low on content right now? not yet not even close and I don't think it ever will. The thing is for these guys ratios mean shit it's all about number of transactions, 1000 signups at a ratio of 1:2000 is the same as 1000 signups at a ratio of 1:500 give or take a few bucks in b/w, for regulars this doesn't work because we are unable to obtain the volume of traffic needed to justify running our business this way. People will argue the ratios will just get worse and worse, probably but you have to remember it's porn, impulse purchases will be made, even with the shit ratios we see these days subscription sales are still a large part of the income. You add alternative products like live cams, dating, pills etc. and you are fine provided you have traffic...lots and lots of traffic.

It's always been about pure volume for them. But I do believe for even that model to continue there has to be a rebalancing between traffic and content.

Besides that at some point government is going to take an interest in what's out there.

Whatever they'll do, it won't solve the problem. Most likely, they will kill the messenger. How about a new set of 2257?

Govs and laws do very little, they have way bigger issues to deal with then copyright infringement especially these days. 2257 is there to protect minors, doesn't make sense to use gov resources going after anyone other then serious cp offenders, and this law only effects US, of course most countries have very similar laws in place anyway.

There's some pretty extreme stuff out there on tubes. It will only take one big headline for the free availablility of that to become a vote winning issue for politicians. You can already hear that on the margins.

Banks, energy companies, housing.......everyone is hitting a brick wall.

Why?

Because the society that evolved in the last 150 years is fucking unsustainable and unworkable...I mean, who's bright idea was it to have nuclear power everywhere depending on the whims of nature and staff like Homer Simpson?

"every man (and woman) for himself" is what happens on a SINKING ship.

............also, the "nature" of porn itself.......

When I first started out a cute 18 year old in a bra and panty would convert......now, content typically has to be "harder".......
