View Full Version : Anybody interested in sharing a server?

07-16-2002, 12:07 PM
Whilst stumbling around the Net in my usual Saturday night drunken stupor, I came across this page. http://www.datahosters.net/index.php?category=dedicatedchoker&_aff=choker
I like the one on the right. No more freehosts for posting galleries, Our sites would all ROCK! I don't think I could burn that much bandwidth no matter how hard I tried.
Anybody out there interested, or do you all know something I don't?

BTW... I put up a link to FOoGie on Kiko's submit page.
Al... Ya got any small eye-catching graphics for this puppy?

Yah scuzz, maybe I should put the link in a more visible place...

8 cents a gig  I dunno about that sounds a little to good to be true.

Also thanks for the link on Kiko Thumbs very cool 8)

No Problem Al.
At least one link back somewhere should be a requirement for membership to the board!
That'd get things hoppin'.

BTW, Are you gettin' any decent amount of hits from Kikos?
What Kinda numbers?
Need the info for research purposes O' course.

Scuzz -- I can hook you up with a dedicated 10mbps server for under $500 a month. Hit me up on ICQ -> 2929686 .

I have been looking around for a good hosting deal.
What do you all think of this?

I've never heard of that host Austin. The best web hosts on the web are adult hosts.

Sure I'd be interested in sharing a server with some other people. Any body here have administration skills? We could get a server from RackShack for cheap.

Powweb sucks big time. :x Tried them a couple years ago for a year or two. I used to write to support to try to get them to put the version of PHP on the server that they said was on it. They never answered back, so I never got to use any PHP stuff. They like to get a years worth of your money at a time. Then they rebill you without any warning. That's why it was for a year or TWO.
They were slow compared to what we're used to. Because they're non adult, I wound up just using it to serve a few banners, and as a pass-through for redirect pages. It finally expired and I was gone like a shot.
If you want cheap non-adult hosting with the works, try http://bluedomino.com If you go for the $18.95 one, you get free copies of all of Coffeecups software.

I think datahosters.net is using Cogent line. For their 10mb/s line, their price is over $1000. Why don't you go to some companies which sell 10mb/s capped line for around $400?

As for their 100mb/s, I see some companies offer $3200-$3500 with a full rack for you.

all this host talk makes me want to renegotiate with my host :oogle: amazing the deals you can get now on hosting. I like my host but for TGP playing I find it still a little to pricey.

Most of the big adult hosts can be vary competitive. You don't need to settle for cogent bandwidth to get cheap prices. I truly feel sorry for all those saps that still use XXX Webhosting, anyone who pays $4-$5 per GB of overage needs a good whack upside the head.

Yep no doubt.......5 bux a gig is nuts......you can do shit your so limited. Even at $1.50-$2 a gig your limited, I been wondering about finding something rock bottom cheap for TGP galleries, but I am going to see what my host can do for me first.

If you're looking for rock bottom prices try http://www.cobaltweb.com/monsterplan.htm. Even if they turn out to suck it's not like you paid much.

I'm using their monsterplan for one of my sites http://www.titsee.com There were a few birthing pains, but it's been smooth sailing for the last 4 months or so. It's uncapped, 70 gigs a month. It was a bit tricky getting all the stuff to work for the site, as there's no CGI, PHP, etc. SSI can be made to work, but only on .shtml files.
I wanted something that would serve pics for Kikos TGP, and load quickly. So far, no problem. Still too expensive for TGPing as far as I'm concerned. My partner and I can burn well over 600 gigs a month on galleries without really trying too hard. That's why I'm looking for a monster server that a bunch of us can share.
10 of us at 600gigs+ each still leaves lots of room on the deal I mentioned above, and would cost less than $250 each. Plus, there's a shitload of storage. Hell, put up an "exclusive" Freeserver and split the profits. Lotsa things could be done with a box like that.

Hi Scuzz,

If you are looking for low cost hosting provider. You might want to checkout http://www.rackshack.net/

$99 for 400gig/month. But you need to have linux knowledge becasue it's unmanaged.

I have several servers with them for my tgp things. I use DNS load balancing to split the sites traffic. It just works great.
