Are industry wide sales being hurt b/c of sites such as pornotube and youporn? I know that my own sales have been down for many months. Pornotube and YouPorn have Alexa rankings below 100 so it's safe to say that they're mainstream and most porn surfers must know about them or use them.

As an experiment I went to those two xxx youtube-like sites and searched for Jenna Jameson and then Kaylani Lei ( lesser known pornstar ). As expected there were so many free videos of Jenna and even a few of lesser known Kaylani. Why would surfers pay for porn when the net is saturated with free porn?

I think it's got more to do with the economy; high gas prices and the mortgage crunch than those type sites.

Six years ago gas was $1.05 and now the average is $2.80. Wages for most people haven't kept pace. People's minimum credit card payments have only got bigger because they've put dozens of SUV sized gas purchases along with a couple mortgage payments on their credit cards, and guess what, that credit card they use to buy porn sites is now that plastic thing they've been calling a son of a bitch. They aren't going to use it anymore for "splurge" items.

That's my two cents opinion. I'll be a 100% believer that's the case too when Christmas sales are 4-6% lower than last year low's and proving to me my sneaking suspicion that people have exhausted their credit lines.

I still think that those youtube porn knockoffs must hurt sales. Both those sites I mentioned within 1 year made it to the top 100 on Alexa. That means that they're mainstream implying that the casual surfer can now find lots of quality free porn. I can't think of any TGP sites that would be in the top 100 on Alexa.
